The Northern Santa Barbara County healthcare industry includes three hospitals (Marian Regional Medical Center, Lompoc Valley Medical Center, and Cottage Hospital Santa Ynez, as well as Mission Hope Cancer Center, eleven Community Health Centers sites on the Central Coast, numerous urgent care clinics, and a wealth of other healthcare providers.
EconAlliance Healthcare Industry Initiative Co-Team Leads Mark Allen, COO, Marian Regional Medical Center and Ed Braxton, Chief Human Resources Officer at Lompoc Valley Medical Center, led the first Initiative meeting in December of 2020, held after an initial industry roundtable in September. The participating group of Healthcare Industry professionals discussed key Northern Santa Barbara County healthcare industry issues (as opposed to community healthcare issues), with the goal of identifying specific areas of focus that would not duplicate but enhance Healthcare Industry support.
Determining that many other organizations were addressing short-term and COVID-19 pandemic-related issues, the group centered on two longer-term priority areas of industry support for EconAlliance Healthcare Initiative efforts:
Healthcare Industry workforce development
Behavioral health resource enhancement in support of Healthcare Industry stakeholders
The group committed to developing and administering a Healthcare Industry workforce survey with a follow-up forum to present survey results. Simultaneously, research would begin to identify potential behavioral health resource opportunities for industry exploration.
EconAlliance is reconvening the Healthcare Industry stakeholder group in 2021 to address the initial priorities established in 2020. In addition, EconAlliance will begin planning for the first Healthcare Industry Forum in early 2022.
