Rural / Community prosperity

Overview

The Rural/Community Prosperity Initiative support by EconAlliance is managed in partnership with USDA and Allan Hancock College (AHC). A collaborative initiative of all Cabinet-level agencies to drive more federal resources into rural areas, the Rural/Community Prosperity Initiative is led by USDA. Northern Santa Barbara County and environs became a community prosperity area (Allan Hancock College Center of Community Prosperity) in 2019, after a joint Rural Prosperity Summit co-hosted by USDA, EconAlliance and Allan Hancock College. In early 2020, after a fall 2019 visit to USDA as part of its North County in DC week, EconAlliance was designated by USDA as a Community Prosperity Council facilitator for the area.

In 2020, EconAlliance and AHC co-hosted with USDA a “Community Prosperity Summit” comprised of six sessions, including one on state and federal resources (video link), as well as others on Economic and Workforce Development (video link), Housing and Infrastructure (video link), Regional Broadband Enhancement (video link) and Wellness and Quality of Life (video link). At the end of 2020, EconAlliance facilitated two “community conversations”, one with Santa Maria and one with Guadalupe stakeholders. Throughout the year, the organization introduced various communities and nonprofit partners to the Rural/Community Prosperity Initiative and the linkage it provides to resources.

EconAlliance continues to cooperate with USDA and AHC on Community Prosperity joint efforts such as webinars, forums, workshops, and other activities.
