The Economic Alliance Foundation (EconAlliance) is a cross-industry 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to build awareness, advocacy, support, and appreciation for Northern Santa Barbara County key industries and communities. EconAlliance promotes industry understanding, development/retention of well-paying jobs and a skilled workforce, worker opportunity, and the infrastructure that supports global competitiveness and thriving communities. Through advocacy, strategic initiatives, unique partnerships, and creative programs, EconAlliance champions the industry attraction, retention, and expansion needed to fuel economic growth and regional economic vitality.

Job Brief

The EconAlliance Board of Directors is seeking a talented, accomplished, and visionary Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead EconAlliance to its next level of growth, stability, and impact. With the Board, the CEO will set the organization’s strategic direction. While building organizational stability and sustainability, the CEO will develop and execute strategies to ensure Northern Santa Barbara County’s progress in becoming an area of high-performance, globally-competitive industries and thriving communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic organizational leadership
  • Develop and execute organization strategic plan
  • Advocacy/External Relations
    • Represent EconAlliance as liaison and the “face” of the organization and Northern Santa Barbara County industry/community advocate to industry and community stakeholders, policymakers, elected, and public officials, donors, and media
    • Provide presentations or comments as appropriate at special events, regional roundtables, permit hearings, townhalls, issue forums, etc.
    • Support industry/community priorities with letters of support/concern, OpEds, white papers, public comment, feature stories, testimonials, etc.
  • Operations Management
    • Serve as key organizational liaison to Board of Directors
    • Develop and execute organizational staffing strategy; manage staff, and volunteers
    • Assure organization’s compliance with applicable laws, regulations
    • Organize for operational efficiency, effective policies, and procedures
  • Fiscal Planning and Accountability
      • Develop and manage annual budget and cash flow
      • Oversee donor and grant allocations, financial reporting
      • Oversee tax preparation and government filings/reporting
  • Organization Growth and Sustainability
      • Develop and manage member/fundraiser/donor strategy for private sector support
      • Evaluate and pursue mission-aligned grant opportunities
      • Leverage fee-for-service options aligned w/organization’s mission and skills
  • Initiative/Program Development and Management
      • Supported by industry teams, manage EconAlliance’s seven industry initiatives

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum Requirements – Minimum ten years in business or nonprofit sector, proven accomplishments in senior leadership position, three years CEO-level responsibility or comparable experience.
  • Desirable Skills and Experience – Strong leadership and interpersonal skills; operations, fiscal and project management skills and experience; excellent written and verbal communications skills; and experience working with boards, nonprofits, businesses, stakeholders, and public officials.
  • Beneficial Knowledge – Nonprofit governance, fundraising and donor strategies, public or government relations, chamber of commerce or industry association work, business or industry background
  • Attributes – Strong affinity for EconAlliance mission and vision, ability to perform successfully in fast-moving, changing environment managing multiple critical priorities
